Rain, mud, and cold temps aside, we had a great time at Overland Expo East 2018 in Asheville. It was our first time trying out a lot of our gear, fine-tuning our packing list, getting to know the overlanding community by camping with Overland Bound, and learning a ton at the sessions. We didn’t spring for Overland Experience tickets and still ended up with a packed schedule.
Even though we’re relatively new to overlanding, we aren’t new to full-time, vehicle-based travel. We’ve actually traveled full-time in an RV for more than five years. Looking at the Overland Expo schedule and attending the sessions last year, we realized we have knowledge to share with the community. We can talk about sustaining full-time travel, working on the road, and traveling with kids.
So we applied to be speakers at Overland Expo West 2019, taking place May 17-19, 2019, in Flagstaff, AZ. And the powers-that-be smiled on our request.
We’ll be there. Will you?
Our Sessions at Overland Expo West 2019
While we’ve been asked not to disclose place/time information, we can definitely share which sessions we’re participating in at Overland Expo West 2019.
We’ll be making a total of four appearances during the event:
- “Overlanding While Working Full-time…Is It Possible?” – This is our main session, and we’ll be hosting it twice during the weekend. Spoiler alert: overlanding + full-time work is possible. But there’s no reason for you to recreate the wheel, and we have more than five years of dos and don’ts to disclose.
- “Regional Q&A: Mexico & Central America” – This panel is an obvious one for us, since we recently returned from a seven-week trip through the interior of Mexico.
- “Overlanding With Kids Roundtable” – We’re especially excited about the opportunity to participate in this roundtable. At Expo East last year, we found that all of the participating families were part-time overlanders. While they had solid insight to share, we look forward to offering tips based on our experience. Caspian (now two) has been a full-time traveler since birth!
Let’s Meet Up!
We want to host an informal meetup during this year’s Expo West. We’re thinking an after-dinner get-together at our campsite (Saturday?), where you BYOB and chair. Obviously we’ll have our overlanding setup there (with sleeping two-year-old in the rooftop tent) and will be happy to answer questions.
We’re pretty big on no-agenda meetups. That’s where the good stuff happens. Feel free to pop in as your schedule allows, even just to say hi.
If you’re interested in an Expo meetup, please contact us so we can plan accordingly and keep you updated.
We’ve had our heads down in our travels and session prep, so we’d love to know: what are you most excited about when it comes to Expo West?
